Touchpoints & Panoramas:
Simulator Training
Located on the ground floor at Davidson Tower, a simulator is used for employee training. This allows Union Pacific to certify and qualify engineers who are required to have special licenses to operate trains. The simulator is also used for recertifications, providing employees an opportunity for remote testing and
training, administered from Union Pacific’s headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska.
Davidson Receiving Yard Control Tower
The Receiving Yard operates from its own control tower, adjacent to Davidson Tower. This is a 24/7 operation where employees pull inbound trains that need to be classified. Personnel can see the tracks and determine, based on manifests, how to classify individual rail cars that need to go into the bowl.
Davidson Receiving Yard
The Receiving Yard is the first place locomotives come across at Davidson Yard. This is where trains are sorted by destination into new blocks. Once cars are processed, they make their way into specific tracks where they can then be combined in the Departure Yard to form new trains. The first step of the classification process is done here.
Crest Tower
The Crest Tower is located at Davidson Tower and houses all the controls, electronic switches, and air-operated switches. This elevated view allows operators to assign where locomotives flow in and out of the bowl.
Davidson Tower
Davidson Yard Consists of 8 receiving yards, 12 departure tracks, and 43 bowl tracks. The facility is
roughly 5 miles, east to west, and primarily serves as a classification facility, where trains are built and
sorted for departure. Union Pacific serves multiple locations, moving customers’ goods from the West
Coast to various locations, such as Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, and Illinois.
Departure Yard
The Fort Worth Davidson Departure Yard is where the finishing touches occur for trains ready to depart. Locomotives are powered up and attached to the rail cars. Before departure, a safety inspection is
completed, as is a final check of the consist to ensure the cars are on the correct train.
Switching
Davidson Yard is a major classification facility. Using the power of gravity, cars flow down a hill or hump, and at the bottom, a switch is used to direct cars to their destination track. Once classification is finished, a new outbound train departs from each track. Approximately 1,200 cars navigate the yard each day.

Davidson Bowl is a 43-track complex in Fort Worth, Texas, where employees sort cars based on their destination and build new trains for departure. The facility often serves as a mid-point for customers moving goods across the nation, and in many cases internationally.
